This page allows you to read the 6 chapters which describe the life of the Brighton Railway Works complex from its humble beginnings to how the site appears in the present day, based on my 14 year project about the transformation of the site.
This chapter explains how the idea of a railway to Brighton began, along with some of the routes it could have taken and also some of the places that Brighton Station could have ended up.
An in-depth look at the bridges & tunnels which allowed the railway to reach Brighton. We shall also touch on the construction of the railways along the coast and how they affected the layout of Brighton Station.
As the railway network grew in complexity, so too did the locomotives and rolling stock which served them. This chapter charts the changes made to Brighton to enable such rapid growth.
Some things are just too good to last. Have you ever outgrown something and then found it again a long time later? Maybe it lost it's charm and had to be replaced....
